This regatta sure isn’t for sissies. We are on Day 4 and EVERYTHING hurts. Everything except our sense of humor. That is still very well intact.
The day started with a resetting of the boat. Turnbuckles were fiddled to bring us back from our heavy weather setting from Day 3 as we were expecting much lighter conditions today.
And it was lighter and trickier. We really struggled in the light air to get our groove. We had some stellar starts in Race 9 and Race 10. Our speed just wasn’t there and we choked back to 14th and 17th respectively.
Then race 11 arrived. We were OCS on a black flag but didn’t know until we entered the harbour later. But at least we enjoyed the excitement of Race 11. We started, we had speed, we port crossed some surprised upper fleet sailors and we made sure to hold onto that 7th position until the very last beat to “finish” 8th. What a wonderful sail, even if we had to discard the black flag penalty.
Race day 5 is pending and the points throughout the fleet are tight. A lot can happen tomorrow.
