The wind started light and quickly started filling in from the north-easterly/easterly starting at 9knots picking up to 15knots midday and settling to 12knots by end of the day.
We had 3 good races, and our race officer graced us with 12-16km long courses.
Race 3 started off with two general recalls and eventually we were pressed into a U-flag start. We had a 2nd lane start but quickly tacked out through the fleet on port into a clean air stream and got to work moving up the fleet.
Race 4 saw us catch a good clean lane and we worked hard throughout the race to hold on staying infront of some much higher ranked teams. Our second lap topmark saw fancier work than usual when Keira disappeared from deck at the offset mark. Allyssa pulled her back onboard, as Randolph put it – very unceremoniously. Petro jumped up to foredeck to set the pole and Bronwen hoisted the kite…. And off we went!
We quickly caught up to the two boats we’d lost in our woman-over-board exercise during our giggle filled and comment riddled run.
Race 5 was a tough one for us as the wind was dropping and we were struggling to find the gears. Eventually after a lot of work found some speed on the shortened and final leg.
The highlight of the day was without a doubt the surfing and downwind speed we were generating. Petro is an incredible cheerleader for a good surf session!
We unfortunately aren’t able to keep track of our other DAC teams. But we know Baby J had some stellar racing and we played with them up a couple beats.
Results so far:
- 10th – Baby J – 13, 8, 9
- 13th – JalapeƱo – 10, 11, 16
- 24th- Bojangles – 24, DNC, DNC
Day 3 tomorrow and we are expecting a big blow.
